Common Core Standards

Dear St. Edward the Confessor Parish School Parents:

As you are aware, the Common Core State Standards initiative is a set of high-quality academic expectations that all students, nationwide, should master by the end of each grade level.
Catholic schools have a long tradition of providing a rigorous academic education in an environment where our faith is taught, nurtured and grown.  A few of you have raised some concern about the adoption of the Common Core Standards in our school.  We want to assure you that the standards  St. Edward the Confessor Parish School will be setting for your children will continue to be raised and in keeping with the guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Orange.  The focus of all of these standards is on critical and analytical thinking skills which includes a strong technological integration  necessary for high school and future career choices.
Attached are two position statements from the National Catholic Education Association and the California State Superintendents endorsing the Common Core Standards.  We hope that this gives you a further explanation of how our school and the Diocese of Orange will implement these new standards to ensure the success of each and every one of our students.  If you have any further questions regarding the Common Core Standards adoption please contact us.  For your convenience the attachments will also be on our school website.

God’s Blessings,

Mrs. Rands
